I bit the bullet...

...and got with the times.

Now if only I wasn't working all weekend and could play with this girl. She is named Harriet, just in case you were wondering. (Yes. I love to give inanimate objects names... my car for example is Lily.) So if you are the praying type say some prayers I won't be at work tomorrow morning and can go do what I really want to do... House Hunt and play with Harriet! If you aren't the praying type, maybe can I get some crossed phalanges? Okay, Thanks.

Adopt a Dog.

If you are in Oklahoma and looking to adopt a puppy. You should visit Dogs as Family and pick one of their dogs. It is a great organization and where I adopted my sweet girl from. They have adult dogs and a litter of chihuahua mix puppies (picture above.) So visit the site and consider adopting a pup. It is so worth it!

Royal Wedding Wednesday!

  • Honeymoon News! Looks like William and Kate will be off to Scotland for their honeymoon to stay at the Queen's Scottish Estate at Balmoral. After Scotland they will jet set off to another romantic local. The Queen and Prince Philip and Prince Charles and Princess Diana also spent part of their honeymoons at Balmoral.

  • Everyone is wondering what Kate will wear on the big day, but will Prince William be wearing his Army, Navy or Royal Air Force Uniform in the wedding ceremony? Both Prince Phillip and Prince Charles wore their Navy Uniform on their wedding day.

From left to right: Army, Royal Air Force and Navy

I definitely hope he goes with the Navy Uniform for the Wedding. But I love him in the RAF.

What is your pick for Prince William on the Big Day!?

It is on.

On Sunday, I decided that the Bif and I needed some friendly competition in our lives. (Well, it probably won't be friendly because I know I will hit below the belt in order to win.) We are competing to see who is more funny. Let me give you a little insight on to how this whole thing was set in motion.

We were having dinner together at the high class dining establishment, Olive Garden, because the Bif is in public accounting and we have not seen much of each other lately. While enjoying our endless breadsticks and salad I was telling some hilarious jokes. It was like I was a stand-up comedian how slick the witty remarks were rolling off my tounge. (Disclaimer: Bif will disagree that all my jokes were funny... but they were.) But then I told one that was a doozy, and allowed me to win the first point in our friendly competition. I have to tell this story vaguely. But it goes a little something like this...

Bif: "We were having a competition of who could jump on top of a file cabinet with no running start."

Me: "What a waste of the company dime." (You have to imagine this in a sarcastic tone...)

Bif LOVES nerdy accounting humor... so by me making this joke I hit the spot. And laughter poured out in our little two person table in the corner. Then Bif finally admitted I said something funny, but all my other jokes were not funny. I obviously disagreed (you should also know I have the ability to crack myself up.) So then it was on. We would have a competition to see who really was more funny. At the end of each day a point will be awarded to the person who made the other laugh the hardest. You can use any type of delivery. Actual jokes, hilarious youtube videos, pictures, etc.

I will win. I am more funny.

BTT

BTT = Behind the Times. I hate to be behind the times. It is one of my pet peeves. This Best Buy commecial pretty much describes exactly how I feel. The little girl at the end nails it.

I am in the market for a new laptop. I want to "mac up" but I have heard that I should wait until the new version of the macbook pro comes out. Apparently, it is already past the time for the macbook pro to update and a new one should be coming out. But we can't predict these things. And what if they do update it but they raise the price. Then I could feel dumb for not getting one at the cheaper price. But I don't want to buy the one that is out now and then in a couple months a new one comes out (for the same price) and then once again I am BTT. IT IS THE WORST FEELING EVER.

Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

I think I can... I think I can...

The sad thing is that deep down inside me I really think that I will win the HGTV Dream Home. Today is the last day for entering the contest... So if you are just now hearing about it you have missed 96 times to enter the competition... so really don't waste your time.

The winner will be announced on or around March 12 ambush style. So don't worry HGTV, I will just be sitting on my couch all day waiting for you to come knock on my door!

In November, the house was valued at $1,500,000. Then those generous folks also give you an additional $500,000 and a new GMC Acadia Denali! Woah Baby... It makes my hear skip a beat just thinking about it.

But let me get real here... when if I win this lovely assortment of prizes there really is no possible way I can keep the house for very long. I would definitely make one or two trips up to good ol' Stowe, Vermont. But since the prize is awarded in March there may not be much time to ski? So obviously this would all be re-evaluated at a later time.

I would probably sell that bad boy as it comes (minus some of the incredible pieces of furniture I would totally take as a memento) and invest almost all of that money. I would probably keep $50,000 in cash to go on a major shopping spree and to use to buy a house! Wouldn't this just be fabulous!

The only problem is that there are probably a million other people who are thinking the same thing. But I have my fingers crossed that this year is my year.

Little (Huge) Thing #3: The Royal Wedding

I am having an unhealthy relationship with the Royal Wedding. Its all I can think about. I wonder what Kate and William are doing at every second. I google it multiple times per day to see what the latest news is.... obsessed. (E! news told me that Victoria Beckham, aka. Posh Spice, was asked to send over some designs for Kate's wedding gown.)

I thought we would start with some interesting news about the Royal Wedding Party (my fave Royal Wedding site can be found here... and I will always link up to my sources.)

Best Man: Prince Harry. William has broken tradition by calling Harry the "Best Man," in the past the groom has had "supporters" but no best man.

Maid of Honor: Pippa Middleton (Loving the name Pippa, by the way!)

The Bridesmaids: Lady Louise Windsor, Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Eliza Lopes and Grace Van Cutsem (Ages: 7, 8, 3, 3, respectively. Apparently they do things a little different over there...)

There are also pageboys. Ages 9 &8. I obviously have some more to learn about this whole Royal Wedding thing. But have no fear... I'll let you know all that I discover.

From now on we will be having Royal Wedding Wednesday where I'll share all the latest news from the previous week.

And in case you didn't know... the Wedding occurs on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00. (Which is about 5:00 am where I'm at) so I have already planned to take the day off work to fully immerse myself in Royal Wedding Bliss.

Look at me.. I'm crafty!

As I posted yesterday, I am hoping to become more crafty this year and so far I have made one crafty thing... this bad boy:

Sorry for the pictures' sub-par quality. I had to take them on my phone because I have misplaced my camera! But this is the Christmas stocking I made for the Bif. It took me from after Thanksgiving to February to finish it all the way. My Grandma and Aunts have been making Christmas stockings and tree skirts for their family and friends for years. So I am hoping to continue the tradition!I got the idea to start making these when my Aunt Laura was working on one for my cousin, Michael, at Thanksgiving. She taught me how to do a few stitches and add the sequins... I was hooked!

I would guesstimate it takes about 30-50 hours to complete one of these stockings. I also added a few extra touches to make my stockings a bit better quality.

Extra #1: Lining.

I added this cute, red and green plaid fabric to the back of the front of the stocking. It will help protect the million stitches I used when sewing the intricate front of the stocking.

Extra #2: Trim on the back.

The trim allows me to cover up the stitches I used to join the front and back of the stocking together. It also gives the stocking a very polished look.

Here is a closer look at Santa...

He is so cute! This picture also shows the detail work that goes into these pieces. Every single thing is sewn by hand. Every stitch... every sequin... aka.... a lot of work! But it is so gratifying at the end. I can't wait for next December to see it hung over the Bif's fireplace. And I have started to work on one for my pup, Elphie. Here is what I have done so far...

Of course, I'll post the results after I finish this one. Hopefully in a more timely manner than my first go round!

Happy Valentine's Day!

One way to really get my blood boiling is to say this:

"Happy invented for the greeting card companies holiday!!!!" - @joelmchale

Guess I will be boycotting the Soup for at least a month... But anyways I think Valentine's Day has always been so fun. Remember decorating a shoebox in elementary school and passing out Valentine's with Barbie or Power Rangers to all your friends. (I would get Justin Bieber Valentine's if I was buying this year...) And I was always so meticulous about which ones I would give to certain boys... because if I didn't think they were cute they got the most platonic card in the set.

I will admit there were a few years in middle/high school when Valentine's Day was really lame because it felt like if you didn't have a Valentine then THE. WORLD. WAS. ENDING... so if you are between the ages of 12 and 17 then maybe I can let negative comments slide. But if you are mature enough then Valentine's Day can be really fun. It doesn't matter if you have a honey or not... do fun things and spread some love today!

Some examples might be...
  • Buy a set of children's valentine cards and deliver them to your friends!
  • Go to lunch with the girls (or guys...) {Doing this... points for me}
  • Go see a movie you have been dying to see (May I HIGHLY recommend "Never Say Never" - The Biebs movie)
  • Watch "When Harry Met Sally"
  • Watch the Bachelor with all your best gal pals!
Okay, Okay, I'll stop! But today is a day to celebrate your Love for the people in your life. Everyone deserves to be told they are loved every day... And this is the holiday to celebrate it!

Disclaimer: I celebrated V-Day with the Bif yesterday. He is in public accounting and will be working until probably 10:00pm. tonight. So I am celebrating today with my friends! (One of my best buds is leaving for Australia tomorrow so we gotta have one last hang out before she leaves!) But I am meeting the Bif for a cookie at the little cafe in our building at 3:00... gotta do a little something on the actual day!

To-Do: Become more crafty

I love crafting. Growing up I had about every kit you could dream of... sand art, coloring books, counted cross stitch kits, a million bead kits... I think you get the idea. So I know that somewhere deep down inside me I still have that craftiness of yesteryear, it is just time I unleash it! So I vow this year to make more crafty things. When I see something in a store I should first think, "Can I make this myself?" Because even though it would save me time and probably a bit of stress, making it myself would be so much more satisfying and maybe even money saving! So my new favorite hobby is to browse etsy for fun things I could try to make myself!!! (I have already created one real crafty thing this year... but obvi you will have to wait for the post about it.) {And this completes the list of things to do in 2011... phew}

ps. Check back later for a Valentine's Day post! I know... 2 posts in one day, shiz is getting crazy around here!

To-Do: Decorate my Room

My bedroom walls are naked. I don't have anything hung up besides curtains (don't want anyone getting a free peep show...) I had great aspirations to decorate my room but when it came down to it I just never really found anything I loved, so I just left them bare.

But once I move in May/June and know what my new wall space situation is going to be I promise to rid my bedroom space of nudity.

I would also kill for the Diamond Tufted Headboard from West Elm... Makes me weak in the knees! Please feel free to contribute to my Headboard fund at any time (because this bad boy would end up costing me at least $500... yikes bikes!)

To-Do: Write a Book

Now to be honest, this is probably the one thing on my list I really don't know that I will be able to check off at the end of the year. I have great aspirations to write a book and I have one pretty good idea. I just can't seem to find the time to sit down and write it. I can barely find time to write on my blog, much less a whole book. But the dream is there and I just can't seem to shake it, so eventually I am going to have to suck it up and put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and write the story.

I like to think I have a pretty crazy imagination that could come up with a really great story. I would love to write a series like Harry Potter or Twilight where I could really tell multiple stories about the characters, but coming up with something that good is darn near impossible. My writing skills could use some help too, but I guess a book editor helps clean that up in the end. What do I know... But here it is, on my list, ready and waiting to be checked off. Only time will tell.

To-Do: Start a Blog... Check!

Okay, first of all I have to admit I am still getting a grasp of this whole blogging thing. I really do try to post everyday but that is hard (and my lack of post yesterday was due to the fact I lost my List of Things to Do in 2011 and didn't remember what the next thing on the list was... but, alas, I found it in my computer bag where I had stored it as I go back and forth to work because of the SNOWPOCALYPSE.)

So the first thing I can check off my list is "Start a Blog" because look at me... I'm blogging! Now I should add a supplementary goal to this one that reads "Do a better job at keeping up with your blog and writing about more interesting things and give them a little more pizazz!" So that is what I will be trying to do now that I have accomplished this goal. It was great being able to check something off the list in the first month of the year!

To-Do: Take Elphie to Training Classes

Elphie really enjoyed the Puppybowl last night. She stayed in this exact same position for at least 10-15 minutes attentively watching the puppies. She also logged a lot of naptime in that little purple dog bed over the past few days.

As soon as I have a more predictable work schedule I am going to take Elphie to training classes. She isn't a bad dog by any means. But I think it is important that she knows a few more commands and obedience type skills. She does the sit command alright, but that is about as good as it gets. And I am not sure she even knows her own name. My boyfriend is convinced she has no idea what her name is. So there are some things we need to work on. I think this summer after I rotate to my new job I will be able to fully commit to taking her to Puppy Kindergarten! (Fingers crossed.)

Did anyone else watch the Puppybowl last night??

To-Do: Move out of apartment and into a rent house

Sorry for the gap in posts. I blame the snowpocalypse...

I do not like apartment living. Not one bit. I almost can't even think of all the reasons that I don't like it because they have all wrapped up together into a giant ball of hate. The noisy neighbors, walking up 3 flights of stairs, walking up 3 flights of stairs carrying 50+ pounds of groceries, not knowing my neighbors, smelling smoke in my heat/air duct. You get the point. I am unsatisfied.

So I began the search for a rental house. And a new roomie, because mine is awful... JUST KIDDING. She is getting married and upgrading to a boy roommate. He will take out the trash and do all the other manly things that boy roommates are great for. (I am hoping for my future boy roommate to also clean the dishes after I cook... fingers crossed.)

Where am I on the roommate/house search. 50% complete. I am going to be living with with my co-worker and fellow OSU alum, Alyssa. We are currently still trying to figure out the housing situation but I have complete faith we will get it figured out! (Especially since we don't need to move out of our current apartments until June.)

Lots more news to come on this front. So stay tuned.
